5 Tips To Add More Flavor To Your Salad

Summer is around the corner and with it some easier prepared and lighter meals. As you know, I am a big fan of stabilizing my blood sugar levels. As part of this routine, we usually have a veggie starter and at the moment, more times than not, it is some form of a salad. Now, of course, “salad” can be the main meal, versatile, crunchy, delicious and awesome. But I have noticed that sometimes, when you are “just” serving it as a side – you can get into a bit of a rut. So here are 5 tips to add more flavor to your salad. Simple, easy, but yet utterly delicious.

I have added some recipe ideas for more “elaborate” salads into this post as well (you know, when you want for salad to be your main event 😉).

Change Up the Lettuce

Are you always grabbing the same lettuce in the supermarket or on the market? An easy way to change your salad is by simply changing the lettuce you are buying. More variety also means you are getting in more and different nutrients into your body, along with, of course – a change in flavor profile.

Add Some Herbs

Another super easy way to automatically add some more flavor, depth and profile to your salad. Add some fresh herbs. You can use whatever you have on hand or in the fridge – parsley, basil, cilantro, mint even some dill or chives do wonders in order to sprucing up your lettuce.

Add Some Nuts or Seeds

Another super easy way in order to change up the flavor profile of your salad is by adding some nuts or seeds. Not only do they provide a satisfying crunch, but – especially when roasted – they can totally complement a salad and/or add depth to your flavor profile. Roasted hazelnuts are something I can definitely recommend, and that we are currently loving.

Add Some Fruit

Another super simple way to add more “fun” to your salad is by adding a bit of fruit. Blueberry, strawberries, grapes, apples, and melon are all fantastic additions that bring about great color, texture, and change up your salads in a fun and easy way.

Change Up Your Dressing

Last but not least, have a look at your dressing and see whether you can change that up a bit?! For example, are you always using vinegar? Why not change it for some lemon juice. Or why not make a recipe based on a (non-dairy) yogurt version with some fresh herbs? You can google some recipes for salad dressings specifically. Again, it will get you out of always making that same salad whilst also adding loads of deliciousness, flavor, and nutrients.
