Why are theseChocolate Covered Peanut Dates Good For You?
Dates
Dates are the fruit from the date palm tree. They grow in a lot of tropical regions around the world, and are sold all over the West nowadays. Dates are chewy and naturally sweet. They are nutritious and contain some important micro nutrients. Dates are high in fiber, contain some protein, potassium, magnesium, copper, and manganese. They are also high in antioxidants. Dates mainly contain flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid. Flavonoids have been shown to reduce inflammation, and may also reduce the risk of diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and certain types of cancer. Carotenoids have been shown to reduce the risk of certain eye diseases. Anti-inflammatory phenolic acid may also aid in lowering your risk of heart disease and cancer.

Fiber, in general, is so important for our bodies and a much needed addition to it. Generally, most people do not eat enough fiber (found largely in vegetables, fruit, and whole grains). Dates are an excellent source of fiber and help with regular bowel movements, and easier elimination. Fiber has also been shown to help with controlling blood sugar levels. Fiber slows down digestion which means that a lot more of the nutrients can be processed slowly, and that also applies to glucose. Last but not least, dates may be beneficial for your brain health. We now know that there is a strong correlation between inflammation in the body and the body’s brain health. Higher inflammation may cause a higher risk for, e.g. Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases. Date’s anti-inflammatory properties may counter-act, and thereby support brain health.

How can I adjust these Chocolate Covered Peanut Dates recipe to my dietary requirements?
This recipe is gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and dairy-free. Due to peanuts being legumes, they are not suitable for the paleo lifestyle. Sometimes peanuts are also classified as nuts, which would also make this recipe not nut-free.
