Cool and Creamy Yogurt Ice Cream

Oh my god this cool and creamy yogurt ice cream is an absolute dream come true!! This can honestly be desribed as a recipe “fail”. In the sense that I had looked up another recipe because I wanted to create yogurt ice cream for some dinner guests that were over and I had looked up a recipe where I messed up whipping some cream. On a whim, I said to my husband: “I think we can save this.” I swapped out most of the ingredients, but my god this one turned out better than anticipated!!

Sincerely, my friend declared it one of the best yogurt ice creams she ever had, mainly because it was so creamy without feeling “icy” as some of them sometimes can feel. I absolutely love that it combines this slightly tangy feeling of yogurt with the creaminess (“without the iciness”) of ice cream. Do not have an ice cream machine? I will show you how you can also make this without one, and laid it out in the recipe.

Popular Flavors with Yogurt Ice Cream

So, how can you make this cool and creamy yogurt ice cream into a dessert? My personal favorite are in-season fruit, cooked in a little bit of ghee or butter and “elevated” with some sort of spice. For example, apples work well with cinnamon (and, when in season, blackberries). Peaches work well with a little bit of ginger, and plums with a little bit of cinnamon, ginger, and a little bit of clove. You can also go classic with some crunched hazelnuts, chocolate, vanilla or any kind of sauce. Mango and passion fruit will work really nicely as well. In essence, if you can either put it into your yogurt or on your frozen yogurt it will very likely work with this yogurt ice cream as well.

Health Benefits of this Yogurt Ice Cream

What I adore most about this recipe is that is completely satisfies your sweet tooth without feeling too heavy. This feels especially important in these longer, summer months and days. In addition, this one has quite a healthy dose of protein, which is both satiating, but also curbs some of that blood sugar, depending on what you are having with your yogurt ice cream. Protein is also important for repairing muscles, bones, and making both enzymes and hormones. Yogurt and quark (or Greek Yogurt) are also packed with probiotics, which are so important for our digestive system, gut health, and immune system.

How Can I Adjust this Recipe to My Dietary Requirements?

This recipe is vegetarian, nut-free, and gluten-free. Due to the dairy used, it is neither suitable for the vegan or paleo-lifestyle.
